In a bid to address this critical area of training need in the power sector, the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) was established in March 23, 2009 and incorporated as a public company limited by guarantee on September 1, 2009. It was, indeed, established and run as a sectoral training institution to provide the training needs of the Nigerian Power sector.

With the successful completion of the reform and privatization programme, NAPTIN, along with some newly established institutions in the power sector, assumed the status of parastatals of the Federal Government under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Power.
